Mojobricks are a one of a kind Compressed Wood Chunks™  There are 3 sizes – SMALL we call a “MINI”, MEDIUM we call a “BAR-B-QUBE” and LARGE we call a “MOJOQUBE.”        Less is more – because it’s concentrated, you only need a little. You need less space to store it and less time to prepare it!

Mojobricks hardwood is the same wood pictured here, it’s natural hardwood.  Unlike products in the market “Wood Chunks” or any other form of wood for smoke flavor e.g. wood chips or sawdust; Mojobricks are not porous.

Many experts in BBQ including Amazingribs.com Author Craig “Meathead” Goldwyn go to great lengths to explain away the use of water to slow the burn.  However, that does not stop every wood chunk manufacturer on the planet from using the words “soak this for a minimum of 2 hours” on the label of the wood chunk or wood chip bag. Soaking wood  for 2 hours is not going to slow anything other than your ability to start the grill as you wait for the wood to soak.

When a tree is first cut it has a moisture content of 50% to 65% or higher. The moment it hits the ground it begins to dry or “season.” By the time wood chunks reach the grocery shelf the moisture drops to 18% to 35% depending on its freshness.  In the same way chicken has water in it, that is pre-frozen and is sold by the pound, with frozen meat the purchase price is reflected in water content.  When you compare wood chunks or wood chips to Mojobricks you are buying 2 to 3 times the water weight in wood chunks or wood chips. When wood chunks or wood chips are placed in hot charcoal, even though the wood is 2 to 3 times more wet, it still burns up quicker because of its porous nature.  Soaking the wood chunks or wood chips in water ahead of time does not slow its burn, but for a few minutes.  The only way to slow the hardwood’s burn time is to remove the air pockets in the wood, reduce the wood’s moisture content and place it in the fire so that it maximizes the smoke flavor – wha la “Mojobricks” is all of these things.

Mojobricks are formulated hardwood.   It is held together by an organic polymer. In a tree, the  binder called lignin pushes water away from itself.  The same reaction takes place inside the compressed Mojobricks.  Water is pushed to the edges. Except in Mojobricks the moisture content is extremely low so there isn’t much water left to be moved, the dense form of a “mojobrick” keeps the wood burning slowly and creates smoke flavor that is truly its own.

Wood Chunks vary in a multitude of ways. The Simple method is DEPENDING ON ITS SIZE WITH MOJOBRICKS  The size is the same every time. “Mojoqubes” are the largest.   According to Chad Humphrey an avid user of Mojobricks and the architect of the Smoker that was used to win both the American Royal World Championship and the Jack Daniels World Invitational,  using Mojobricks in the Humphrey Smoker is an advantage as the Bar-B-Qube can smoke up to 12 hours and especially in conjunction with pellet grills, specifically a Humphrey Pellet grill.

Bar-B-Qubes medium – Are finger length and the diameter is about 1 1/2″  They come in a 4 pack and are best used in a long slow cook situation. When added to a smoke box they will smoke for hours. When added to charcoal Bar-B-Qubes produce smoke flavor immediately for  2+ hours. These are great in electric smokers (they will ignite when in the smoke box on the smoke element) for cooking butts or brisket or other large meats try this pack.  These are great in propane smokers as well as in your back yard grill e.g. slow smoking ribs or other 4 + hour slow smoking meats.

Use in any grill including Electric Smokers – smoke box. These can also add additional smoke flavor in your pellet grill.   Above is a picture of a Bar-B-Qube sitting atop a fire pot in a pellet grill.  David Bouska of “Butcher BBQ Team” in Oklahoma recommends the Bar-B-Qube as he has used Mojobricks in many winning occasions. Most notibly an early use of the product gave him the edge as his team won at the World Food Championship in Las Vegas in 2012.
Wood Chunks require a buffer like foil or a smoke box because wood chunks will burn up quick without it. We recommend a smoke box but it is not needed, just keep the Mojobricks away from any area where grease or falling grease is located. Only one Bar-B-Qube is needed for a low and slow cook versus up to 10 wood chunks for the same purpose.

MINIS ARE ABOUT THE SIZE OF A LARGE ICE CUBE AND 1 OR 2 MINIS REPLACE A CUP AND A HALF TO 2 CUPS OF WOOD CHIPS IN YOUR GRILL. MINIS ARE GREAT FOR HIGH HEAT COOKING IN YOUR OUTDOOR GRILL.

Minis -come in an 8 pack size use them in High Heat – grill with a Mini and you have about 30 minutes to 45 minutes of solid smoke flavor. Gas grill or charcoal the hardwood mini will produce just the right smoke flavor for your grilling experience.  Try one under your chicken, burgers, or fish and find out why so many people are making the move to Mojobricks for smoke flavor!  Wood Chips are added to a foil pouch or a smoke box and typically it takes 1/3 of the bag to equal the same smoke time frame you get from one Mini.  We know that a Mini is much easier to use, less mess  and is easily stored for future uses.
